STORY BEHIND GENESIS
When word came to our team that our church (Austin Ridge Bible Church) would be studying Genesis for the next year and a half, we knew that we had a chance to creatively support the sermon series with something unique and on a large scale. The idea of creating a movie was tossed around, but we had no clarity on how that could be used in conjunction with Sunday services. But we realized that if we could capture the beauty and truth of key scenes from the book of Genesis, the clips could be cut from the movie and played to correlate with the passage from that week’s study. So we created a script, put together a sample trailer of clips used from other movies, and pitched the idea to our church leadership. They bought into the idea and turned us loose to make the movie. Six weeks later, we were tramping through the forests of Arkansas with a small crew and Adam and Eve.
We shot the movie in six major sections: Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, and Jochebed. The process took over a year to complete, included nearly a hundred different cast and crew members, and presented plenty of challenges and joys along the way. In the midst of our shooting, we cut clips to be shown on Sundays. But our intention was always to put together a final feature film that could tell the story of Genesis in a way no one had ever seen. We are proud to announce that goal has been accomplished, and we hope that you join us in spreading the movie to your community.
Based on the first book of the Bible, Genesis is a sweeping and poetic look at the beginning of man’s relationship with God. While Jochebed (Venus Monique) hides in a shelter to protect her son from being murdered, she tells him the story of her people over the course of a dangerous night. This inspiring movie explores the idea that mankind will one day return to the place where we started, but that the journey will be filled with hardship, beauty, and a desperate need to trust the Creator.
